Bridge to Nowhere
by Stephanie Parker McKean
Today I am happy to introduce Stephanie Parker McKean, author of our newly released Christian romance mystery-suspense novel, to the blog for a post to introduce her new novel.
About Bridge to Nowhere
Bestselling author Mike spends her days shut up in her
office, churning out detective stories for her publisher. When a beautiful
stranger appears, masquerading as Lynette Clarissa Greene, begging her to help
investigate the murder of her sister, Mike is soon embroiled in a mystery which
includes the entire town. From the simple-minded Clint, who sheds light on
Lynette’s true identity, to the talented Nat, and the orphaned Jared, Mike soon
finds herself immersed in the illicit subculture of Texas Hill. From dog fights
to kidnappings, her life is thrown into chaos by her incessant need to track
down culprits and bring them to justice.
In amongst
the drama she finds herself wrapped up in is Mike’s relationship with retired
film star and rodeo champion Marty. Used to saving her from the troubles she
finds herself unwittingly caught up in, Marty is her hero. As the story
progresses, Marty comes around to Mike’s qualities and they grow closer both
professionally and personally. Will they finally settle on a date and keep it?
Or will the drama continue to obliterate any progress they are making in their
relationship?
Introducing Bridge
to Nowhere
And the Readers’ Bill of Rights
Let me confess my sin of arrogance. I
wrote Bridge to Nowhere, for me. Actually, I wrote Bridge to Nowhere for readers like me, because I thought it was about
time we had our own bill of rights—so here goes.
1.
We
love romance. We’re not too old to enjoy the thrill and ardor of love, falling
in love, being loved. But we deplore novels that cheapen God’s gift of love by
reveling in unfettered bed play that never causes realistic consequences and
where everything turns out right in the end—no matter how many pages and beds
it takes to get there.
2.
We
love mystery. We love engaging our intellect to solve crimes and right wrongs.
We believe that mystery writers like Agatha Christie have made the world a more
lively, interesting place. And, yet, we believe we deserve more. A spark of romance that makes us catch our breath when
adversity threatens to pluck and crush the budding love interests of the characters
who have surreptitiously entered our lives and embraced us with friendship so
that we are suddenly living their story, not just reading it.
3.
We
love adventure. We want our reading to transport us to interesting places,
entertain us with interesting events—leave us biting our fingernails at times
when it looks as if the hero or heroine is going to be not only swamped by
adversity and danger—but drowned as well.
4.
And we
are sick and tired and sick and tired of the world’s perception that medicating
oneself with alcohol and drugs to the point of falling down drunk or passing
out drunk and stoned is the way to solve problems and move a plot forward. We
want heroes and heroines who have the strength, grace, and guts to meet
adversity head-on with prayer and faith in God, and like Jesus, emerge
victorious.
The Christian mystery-romance-adventure Bridge to Nowhere opens in Three Prongs,
Mike’s determination to mind her own
business, however, evaporates when a lovely young girl begs her to find the
truth about her sister’s murder. Mike sets out to solve the mystery whose
solution has evaded local law enforcement. During the course of her
investigation, she rescues a drug addict from a street gang in San Antonio;
rescues a troubled boy who is thrown out of a children’s home and may or may
not have committed a murder himself; and brings home Clint Flavors, a local
laborer who some criticize as having an elevator that sticks between floors.
The problems that hit Mike—even though she
always minds her own business—would knock the legs out from under a bronc at
the rodeo. Mike knows who killed Julia and why, but no one will believe her.
Even Marty turns against her, and Mike’s faith in God is tested nearly to the
breaking point when her young grandson is kidnapped.
True to God’s Word that He uses the weak of
this world to confound the strong and the foolish of this world to confound the
wise, Clint Flavors—the Three Prongs misfit who some folks like to say isn’t
the sharpest knife in the drawer—helps Mike solve the mystery of the Bridge to Nowhere and find her grandson.
With her grandson safely restored to his
parents and mysteries solved for the moment, Mike can go back to minding her
own business and dreaming about an M&Ms
future with Marty. In fact, Marty seems very close to popping the question that
Mike is only too eager to answer! But this is Three Prongs,
